As much as it would be awesome to have them open this week, in time for the forecasted heat wave, most of us will have to wait one more week for pools in Eastern Maine to open.

Here's the scoop on when you'll actually be able to take a cool, refreshing dip in the water (outside of going to the lake or the beach.)

The Bangor Parks & Recreation Department says both Bangor Pools, The Beth Pancoe Pool located at Hayford Park, 775 13th St, and the Dakin Park, at 336 Pine St. in Bangor will be open the week after school gets out, June 24th. They already have sign-ups advertised on their Facebook Page for aquatics programs.

They're currently hiring for lifeguard positions. You can apply online through the City's website by clicking here. The Parks and Rec Department will hold walk-in interviews at their 647 Main Street Parks and Rec facility on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays the interviews will be conducted from 9 AM to 11 AM. On Thursdays, they will take place from 2 PM to 4 PM.

However, the Bangor Housing Splash Pad is already open, with a nearby playground, covered picnic tables, and a basketball court on-site on Davis Road.

In Brewer, the pool will open on June 24th, too. They are also looking to hire lifeguards for their pool at State and Wilson St in Brewer. You can find out more at the Brewer Parks and Rec Facebook page or their website.

The Orono Municipal Pool closed early last season, to make some upgrades to the facility. The folks from the Orono Rec Department say that the pool will receive a new liner in June, and then the final improvements will be finished. If all goes as planned, Orono Parks and Rec would like to open the pool at some point in July.  They'll be keeping people updated on the progress of that project via their Facebook Page.

The pool at the Old Town/Orono YMCA  is open and currently providing swim lessons. You can find more information here.

The Belfast City Pool, located at the Belfast City Park, will open Wednesday, June 19th at 11 AM this year.

Despite the recent heatwave, we still have to wait a little while before most of the public pools open for the summer season. So you may have to resort to soaking in a kiddie pool in the backyard for another couple of weeks. Hang in there!
