Two thousand four hundred streetlights? Wow, that's a whole bunch more than what Portage has.

Bangor City Council Chair Ben Sprague recently posted the above message to Facebook, explaining that the city has been slowly converting approximately 2,400 street lights over to LED, which will save oodles of money. That's great news!

Did you know that LED bulbs can cut electrical use by up to 80 percent? That according to Energy.gov. More good news, LED bulbs will last 25 times longer than traditional bulbs, and Public Works also has the ability to point the light from an LED fixture in a certain direction as well.

There is a conversion cost up front, but in the long run it will save Bangor taxpayers big bucks.
