The  Bangor Public Library serves about 800 people a day, and those folks will have to find other alternatives during the library's six week shutdown for renovations.

Crews will make a variety of improvements to the Library during the shutdown between November 16th and January 4th. During the closure, users of the library will be able to use their cards at a variety of other libraries in the area, and also be able to check out as many books as they'd like for the entire six week period prior to the temporary shutdown.

Part of a large scale renovation that will be completed by March of 2016, crews will install a three story staircase that would connect both the old and new portions of the library, and a new children's section will appear on the third floor.

During this phase of the library's renovations, all 500,000 books will be fitted with radio tags so that librarians can keep a better eye on them and users will be then able to take use "self checkout."
