The popular 'party drug' has a harmless name, with serious consequences.

MDMA, also known as 'Molly,' has been blamed for numerous deaths. The hallucinogenic drug has gained fame with the rave scene and pop acts like Miley Cyrus. In her infamous performance at the VMA's, MTV choose to censor Cyrus' mention of the drug.

Although toxicology results are not yet available, a string of deaths are being linked with overdoses of Molly. A few weeks ago the final day of the Electric Zoo Festival was canceled after two people died from a apparent overdoses. In addition, it appears a UVA honors student died at a club two weeks ago from the same drug. Investigators are looking to see if the deaths can be linked to same batch of 'bad Molly.'

Molly gets its name from word 'molecular' because it's supposed to be 'pure' MDMA. However, dealers can and will cut the drug with just about anything.

It's important to remember not everyone who goes to raves dose Molly, nor do most artists approve of its use. In 2012 Madonna made an appearance at Ultra Music Festival in Miami. While on stage Madge made a reference to the drug asking 'Has anyone seen Molly?'

Leading EDM producer Deadmau5 blasted her in a Rolling Stone article saying:

'You want to be 'hip' and 'cool' and 'funky grandma'? Fine. It's not my place to say you're irrelevant. If you're gonna come into my world, at least do it with a little more dignity. I understand she has millions more fans, and is way more successful than I'll ever be. But it's like talking about slavery at a f****** blues concert. It's inappropriate.'
