Somebody break out the Lotrimin!

Great Balls Of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis was released on this date in 1957.  Definitely one of the songs that epitomizes the birth of rock n' roll; it would go on to sell five million copies. Jerry Lee would go on to marry and then divorce six women. The now 80 year-old Lewis is currently married to wife #7, but give it time.

A 17 year-old girl fell from the balcony and was severely injured on this date in 1964 while the Rolling Stones were playing a concert at the Cleveland Public Hall.  The mayor of the city said, "Such group's do not add to the community's culture or entertainment,"  and then banned all future pop concerts. They returned to play the Cleveland Arena in June 1966.

Carly Simon and James Taylor were married on this day in 1972 at Simon's apartment in New York City.  The two would take the stage that night at Radio City Music Hall.  They would be married for eleven years.  Thank god they found the time to record Mockingbird before moving on, we shudder to think what life would be without it.

In 1977, during a concert in Wembley, London, Elton John announced his retirement from live performances. Elton tours Japan, New Zealand and China this month, see him in Vegas beginning in January when he sets up residency at Caesar's Palace, again.

On this date in 1979, the Eagles started a nine week run at #1 on the Billboard Hot Album chart with The Long Run. Soon after the group would dissolve during a knock down drag out street fight as egos and drugs took their toll. Long haired musicians fighting in the mud, the blood and the beer is not a pretty sight to see.  Years later when hell froze over and poverty set in they would come to their senses and regroup. The Eagles are today's I-95 Band of the Day!
