Downeast Check Thief Is Identified! [VIDEO]

An update on the alleged check thief in the Ellsworth area.  According to the Ellsworth Police Department's Facebook page, the man pictured here has been identified, and the Department is in the process of applying for an arrest warrant.

Recently, someone has been stealing checks out of mailboxes in Lamoine, Ellsworth and Hancock. He would adjust the line as to whom the check was made out to, then buy merchandise at the local Home Depot.  After awhile the man would then return what he had purchased for cash.

Detective Dotty Small of the Ellsworth Police Department says that it's a good idea not to leave checks in your mailbox.  If you're mailing out checks, do so at a secure location, like your local post office.

At this moment the man has not been apprehended.
