Two pounds of chicken, along with a similar amount of apples and potatoes.  Add in two pints of milk.  How does the final cost of these grocery items in Maine compare to other states?

Across the country, state by state, there's quite a difference in price!

A site called DietsInReview.com compiled a listing of the average cost of those items per state, and in Maine it would cost about $16.11 to pull off a meal featuring those foods.

Compare that to the costliest, the state of Virginia where it would take $27.48 to get past the check out isle.

The cheapest state was Idaho where the cost for that night's meal would average out at $9.33.

What's really weird is to look at the difference between states that are right next to each other. South Carolina ($24.11) is almost twice as expensive as North Carolina ($12.65).  Yeah, figure that one out.

The average price of these particular groceries across the country pans out to be $14.99.
