Tonight’s mystery artist thought he knew what radio needed and people wants so unlike his contemporaries he held out for creative control over his albums. Think you know who the smart guy is??

This was back in the late 60s when record companies were very much in control of radio air play and the sound their musicians were allowed to produce. However, as he told during his biography ‘Fly Like an Eagle: 30 Years Rock’n’ Steve Miller tells how he held out for creative control because he wanted to play music for his entire life and having creative control is the only way he could do that. He was courted by many record companies but none would concede to this stipulation until Capitol Records finally gave it a shot.  Wise choice wouldn’t you say.
