Spot the Lighthouse Dog was a spaniel who lived at Owl's Head Light back in the 1930s.

Legend has it that Spot would ring the lighthouse bell every time he would see (spot) a boat approaching Rockland Harbor.  One night during a blizzard the bell would freeze solid.  But, that didn't stop Spot.  That night he would stand of the cliffs and bark every time that he would see a boat approach the rocky ledge.

Spot would eventually have a book written about him, released in January of 2000 by author Angeli Perrow.

The current Owl's Head Lighthouse that replaced the original tower structure there was erected in 1852.  It is run by the U.S. Coast Guard and is part of Owls Head State Park!

The vantage points of the ocean are absolutely beautiful, and the park contains a wonderful picnic area. There is no fee to enter this State Park!
