Way back when it used to be a common sight, as Steam Engine 470 pulled into Bangor's Union Station with a load of passengers from the Portland area and beyond.  The old engine has been sitting idle and unused in Waterville for the past 62 years, but all that's about to change this July.

It's been a slow process, but the New England Steam Corporation is pulling off their final game plan of having old Engine 470 reside and be part of the Downeast Scenic Railroad in Ellsworth!

In June of 1954, Engine 470 carried an estimated 800 passengers on it's final ride.  The engine is slowly being dismantled in Waterville, and will be put back together in Ellsworth, where Richard Glueck, who is president of the group, hopes the train will once again haul passengers.

Donated cash is certainly instrumental in pulling off this huge feat.  So, make plans to stop by the Touch A Train 2016 event on Saturday, June 11th!  Bring the kids out to the Washington Junction yard of the Downeast Scenic Railroad where there will be plenty of exhibits, attractions, free dessert samples from Governor's Restaurant, a "caboose hop", and a discount afternoon train ride.  It's a pretty safe bet that your child can sit in the driver's seat!
