We are so excited that the Downtown Bangor Festival of Lights Parade is this Saturday along with a host of downtown events.  However there are two other event going on this Saturday too that you will want to make Holiday traditions. So why not start this year?

A personal favorite that fills my holiday stocking and voyeuristic tendencies is St John's Homes For The Holidays. If you like decking the halls then this is an event you won't want to miss. This year's tour includes five historic homes located throughout the city of Bangor. A pamphlet will describe the historic and architecturally significant details of each house. Seasonal refreshments will be available at each site. The Bangor Area Children’s Choir and the St. John’s Episcopal Church choir will visit each home to sing seasonal carols. This tour is from Noon - 4 PM this Saturday. Tickets are $25.00 and can be picked up at Chapel Hill Floral, Rebecca’s on Main Street, Sprague’s Nursery and St. John’s Episcopal Church Office.

Next on my Holiday list of things to do is the John Bapst Craft Fair. This event is put on by their Fine Arts Boosters and runs Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m – 3 p.m.

Their web page directs you to the John Bapst Sekera Auditorium and the gym where over 50 local crafters and artisans can be found.  There is also variety of lunch entrees will we available for purchase from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.. And for a great take awaythey have a bake sale table and a 50/50 raffle with a winner drawn every hour.

Then of course it is off to downtown where many of the museums and businesses have things for you and the family to do and enjoy right up to parade time. These event start up a 11 AM and go until 3PM and include:

  • University of Maine Museum of Art will have winter art making activities.
  • Specialty Sweets will have candy crafting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Santa and decorate cookies at Bagel Central and Central Meeting House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Bangor Arts Exchange Ballroom, will host the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestra Music-a-thon

Parade steps off at 4PM and proceeds through downtown Bangor  leading up to the tree lighting. Wow, remember to wear comfortable shoes and have fun!
