1-Year-Old Clinton Boy Dies After Falling Into Water-Filled Tote
A toddler from Kennebec County succumbed to injuries he sustained earlier this week when his mother found him submerged in a tote filled with water.
According to Maine Department of Public Safety Information Officer, Shannon Moss, State Police were called to a Clinton home on Ellwood Drive just before 7 PM on Tuesday, to respond to a report that someone had drowned.
"A one-year-old child, who lived at the home was found by his mother outside the home in a plastic tote that had water in it. The boy’s mother discovered her son after being alerted by another child. A Clinton Police Officer and rescue crews arrived and performed life saving measures."
The Clinton Maine Police Department explained some of what happened and the harrowing efforts made to try to save the child's life.
"Yesterday we had the call that we never want to get!... Officer Smith responded and arrived in 4 minutes. He was directed to the back of [the] home to a deck where adults were performing CPR on the child. Officer Smith took over CPR and notified our ambulance what he was doing. When the ambulance arrived officer Smith carried the child to the ambulance while still performing CPR. Officer Smith went to the hospital in the ambulance performing CPR."
The child was later transported to a local hospital and ultimately flown by Lifeflight to Maine Medical Center. He was in critical condition when he arrived.
Unfortunately, Moss said he has since passed away. She said authorities are still looking into the details surrounding the incident.
"As is protocol Maine State Police Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident."
Please keep the family, the community, and the first responders involved in your thoughts this holiday weekend.
