2nd Annual ‘Best Buddies’ Walk In Bangor Planned For April
For folks who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD for short) and those who care for them, finding resources and support can be tricky. It can also be a challenge to educate the public about some of the issues facing people with IDD.

Best Buddies is a non-profit organization that serves folks with IDD and helps connect them with the resources they need. According to their website, they also help raise public awareness about IDD.
"Best Buddies serves individuals with IDD and their families. The IDD community includes, but is not limited to, people with Down syndrome, autism, Fragile X, Williams syndrome, and other undiagnosed disabilities. Best Buddies is the largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of the 200 million people worldwide with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)."
The goal of the organization is to empower individuals and families with IDD, and one of the biggest and best ways they do that is to host an annual "Best Buddies" Walk.
There are different chapters in different cities. Locally, the Best Buddies Walk in the Bangor area is about to kick off its second event ever this April.
The folks running the Brewer Best Buddies Team say people can start to put together their teams and fundraise now if they'd like to get involved.
"The 2nd annual Best Buddies Walk (in Bangor) will be held on Sunday, April 27th at 9:30 am at Cameron Stadium. Our co-presidents, Allie and Presley would love to be the highest fundraising team in the state (they are a little competitive) so, feel free to join our team (Brewer Best Buddies) and make a donation to help support inclusion in the Best Buddies program across the state of Maine."
As of the last check, the Brewer team was only $70 away from reaching its goal of raising $500. If you'd like to learn more about the cause or make a donation, you can click here.
