A ‘Wicked Scary’ Movie Is Being Filmed In Greater Bangor [VIDEO]
If you've been in the Bangor area this summer and noticed a lot of strange activity (lots of vehicles, film equipment, folks in costume) there's a reason for that;
There's a movie being filmed in our neck of the woods.
Wicked Scary Productions is currently shooting what's reported to be a comedy-horror in the spots in and around the Queen City.
Crews were spotted first in the area of the Fairmount School off 13th Street in Bangor, where one local resident was out walking their dog. That resident inquired what all the hubbub was about, and was told that it was a mayonnaise commercial (likely to throw them off the scent.)
Another local man, Jack Loftus (who took some videos of the production crew) said he spoke with one of the crew members and they had nothing but nice things to say about Maine.
"He said that there was a lot to like about Bangor, up front was the people who were kind and very accommodating. And then he added and this beautiful weather."
Next, folks in the Beecher Park area of town found notes on their doors Sunday afternoon from the production company, warning them that filming would take place in that neighborhood for that day.
"The filming of this production will include: Possible Minimal Traffic Interruptions, Parked Production Crew Vehicles, Costumed Cast Members and Props.
Controlled Special Effects will be included such as loss of fake body parts, however, there will be NO pyrotechnics or loud sound effects....We have obtained a 'Film Location Permit' from Bangor. We appreciate your generous support and welcome you to observe filming from a safe distance without compromising the set."
The letter said the crew was working in cooperation with the City of Bangor, Bangor Parks & Rec, Bangor Police Department and the Maine Film Office.
We reached out to the Maine Film Office, which according to Director Karen Carberry Warhola, "markets Maine as a filming location for all forms of production including feature films, television, digital media, photography and catalog shoots; supports productions by assisting with finding support services and resources within Maine; offers incentives; works with communities to prepare them for productions of all types and sizes; and maintains the website, FilmInMaine.com, as a comprehensive resource including an online production guide and a location library. "
Warhola put us in touch with Ben Goodman from the Legislative Affairs and Communications Department of Economic and Community Development for the State of Maine.
Goodman confirmed that a film is in production in our area, but couldn't go into further detail.
Many movies have been filmed in the state of Maine over the years, and not even a pandemic would slow things down for the industry. Goodman said the number of films using Maine as a backdrop has been on the rise.
"...Although production was shut down between March and June of 2020, the number of productions that filmed in Maine in 2020 ended up being higher than 2019 as productions prioritized finding safe places to film. While productions are not required to register with the Film Office, contacts by productions filming or interested in filming in Maine have increased and remained steady."
The production crew was also spotted in the Hartland area.
We reached out to Christina Scott, the writer/producer of the film, to get more info on the production, but have yet to hear back.
However, the Wicked Scary Productions website says the release date on their current project will be October 31 of next year.
