'Tis the season, mud season that is.

Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, March 12th, the popular carriage roads within Acadia National Park will be closed to everyone and everything due to the softness of their surface.  This includes those on foot, on bikes, and on horses.  Everything.

We’re asking all visitors to help protect the historic carriage road system and prevent costly repairs by cooperating with this temporary closure,” said Superintendent Kevin Schneider.

The 45 miles of Acadia's carriage roads will reopen when they dry out and harden. You can monitor any alert issued by Acadia National Park HERE.

The Park Loop Road remains closed to motorized traffic until April 15th, but remains open to hikers and bikers.  Just be aware of closed gates, nature's elements, and official Park vehicles.

The hiking trails within Acadia remain open for foot traffic.
