Accident Scatters Booze All Over One Piscataquis County Road
Misjudging a soft shoulder in the early morning hours of Thursday created quite a mess that shut down part of Route 15 and Rockwood Rd. in Piscataquis County.
According to Piscataquis County Sheriff's Deputy Investigator, Kyle Wilson, the incident started at about 5:30 AM when a Pine State Beverage delivery truck filled with alcohol ran into some trouble on the roadway.
"It just got into a soft shoulder, and when he tried to correct it, it tipped over and the momentum carried him into the roadway. When it turned over sideways, it dumped all of the cargo out of the top of the truck as it ripped the top open."
Thankfully, Wilson says the driver sustained only minor injuries.
The roadway, however, will take some effort to clear.
"For a little while, both lanes were shut down. We were able to get one open...we're still actively trying to get it clean enough so we can flip the truck back over."
Wilson says that aside from the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Department, folks from Pine State Beverage, the Maine DOT, and the Greenville Fire Department are also helping the effort. Bouchard's Towing and Recovery will handle the transport of the broken truck when the mess has been cleaned.
"We have to clear up the stuff from the back before we can flip the truck back up...We'll get all the trash picked up and the Fire Department will wash the road off."
We're told the driver was the only occupant of the truck at the time of the accident.
