Authorities Investigating Another Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Maine This Week

According to the Auburn Police Department, this one took place in the area of Washington Street on the morning of Wednesday, August 19th.

"At approximately 6:39 a.m., a 2022 Volvo SUV and a 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle were both traveling southbound on Washington Street. The preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV changed lanes and the motorcycle operator was unable to stop before striking the rear of the SUV. The motorcycle operator, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected and came to rest near a guardrail. The SUV left the roadway and came to rest in a wooded area."

While the driver of the SUV was uninjured, the driver of the motorcycle died at the scene of the collision. Investigators say they believe speed played a part in the crash, but have not released an official cause yet, nor have they released the names of the drivers of the SUV or the motorcycle. They are waiting to notify the families first, and until the investigation has concluded.

Earlier this week, another man died in the Penobscot County Town of Glenburn when the Harley he was operating lost control and left the roadway. Authorities are still looking into what caused that crash, as well.

So far, just in August, there have been at least 4 motorcycle fatalities. Overall in 2026, there have been over 20 deaths involving motorcycle riders.
