From Monday, September 21st through Thursday, September 24th, BIA officials say all flights in and out of Bangor International Airport will be temporarily suspended (unless you're in a helicopter; then you're good to go!)

According to their website, airport officials say inspectors found some runway concerns, which they say were due to a naturally occurring condition. Crews made temporary repairs, as was recommended by the experts. But next week's repairs will be of a more permanent nature and will keep the runway operational for years to come.
"Following continued evaluations, both the airport’s engineering team and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have recommended completing permanent repairs while favorable weather conditions are available. Addressing the issue now will preserve the long-term integrity of the runway, reduce the need for future temporary repairs, and help ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the airport."

Airport officials say those making travel plans for next week should be mindful of the closure and reach out to their specific airline to make alternate arrangements.

According to Bangor International Airport Director Jose Saavedra, despite some challenges over the past few years, the airport is on track to have its best year ever in 2025, and is on track to grow even more this year.

"In December, we marked the completion of the $47 million Runway 15/33 rehabilitation with a ribbon-cutting alongside members of Maine’s congressional delegation and state officials, formally closing a major chapter of work for the airport. Even with those impacts, we made meaningful progress. We welcomed new seasonal service to
Atlanta on Delta Air Lines and additional seasonal routes announced for 2026...We also completed a passenger forecast showing BGR is on track to serve one million passengers annually by 2030."
Next week's runway repair work is scheduled to start at 8 AM on Monday and wrap up by 3 PM on Thursday.
