Maine Brewer Celebrates ‘HabiTap’ Beer Passport Program With New Beer
There are many things you can do to support the creation of affordable housing in the city of Bangor and its surrounding communities, but did you know you could help just by drinking beer?
For the 3rd year in a row, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Bangor Area is offering their "HabiTap for Humanity Beer Passport."
This has become Habitat's largest annual fundraiser, bringing in tens of thousands of dollars since they rolled out the program, says Eric Jolliff, Community Engagement Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor.
"Over the past three years, HabiTAP passport sales have raised over $30,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor, and all funds raised stay in the Bangor region, battling the affordable housing crisis. This year's fundraising will be applied directly to our 30th home being built on Thirteenth St., in Bangor."
The premise is pretty simple: Buy a $40 HabiTap Beer Passport either online by clicking here, or you can pick one up when you stop in to purchase something or donate something at the Habitat For Humanity Restore at 378 Harlow Street, and drink a round while you make the rounds to your favorite local breweries.
"Each passport entitles the holder to a beer at each of the nine local craft breweries. (Bangor Beer Co, SeaDog, Mason's, Orono Brewing, [Bangor], Orono Brewing [Orono] 2 Feet, Marsh Island, Geaghan's, and Penobscot Bay.)"
Jolliff says this year, one local brewery has upped the ante a bit and is paying tribute to this delicious program by brewing and bottling a special batch of beer!
"In recognition of the work of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor and its HabiTAP Beer Passport fundraiser, Bangor Beer Company is producing and labeling a beer specifically for the HabiTAP Beer Passport fundraiser. BBC is producing 7 barrels of Kolsch beer called "HabiTAP". The beer will be distributed through local vendors such as Stompers and Damon's, as well as on TAP at the Bangor Beer Brewery, 330 Bangor Mall Drive."
There's even a big celebration planned for the coming month of May, when Bangor Beer Company will unveil the new brew, says Jared Lambert, Head Brewer at Bangor Beer.
"We are excited to be a part of this because we support Bangor Habitat and we've never made a Kolsch."
The plan is to have a release party featuring the "HabiTap" beer on Thursday, May 15th at 5 PM right at the Bangor Beer Company Brewery.
