New ‘Nostalgic’ Candy Shop Opens In Downtown Bangor Friday
Bangor has a new perfect pairing in a little corner of Downtown: A children's bookstore and now a candy/toy shop!
It's been Bangor native, Andy Day's childhood dream to open a candy store, and Friday, that dream became a reality.
Day, who has worked both in retail and in the Downtown Bangor area for years. You might recognize him from his days at Borders book store, or maybe from his time at Paddy Murphy's.
But this time, Day's gone to work for himself! And I can't imagine have a job any cooler than candy shop owner!
He recently renovated a storefront at 21 Central Street, right next to legendary Bangor bookstore, The Briar Patch.

Day had a small gathering for family and friends Thursday evening, before officially opening the doors to "Oh, Grow Up!" on Friday morning.
We got to take a peek inside, and can say that it didn't disappoint!
If you remember walking up to the general store when you were a kid, and filling a brown paper bag with candy, this will take you on a trip down memory lane.
Day has filled the brightly painted shop with all sorts of delicious candies from yesteryear.
Remember candy cigarettes?
They've got them.
Remember Zagnut bars?
They've got those, too.
Rock candy? Yup. Giant Dum-dums? Affirmative.
An enormous gummy bear? Uh-huh.

He's also got a giant selection of novelty sodas in all sorts of interesting flavors!
And if that wasn't sweet enough, Day's also stocked the shelves with all the best nostalgic toys...and maybe even some new ones!
If you're looking to grab a quick birthday gift, why not an old-school etch-a-sketch or Magic 8 ball?
Day says the store will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sundays from 11 AM to 4 PM.
