Bangor International Airport has added a new passenger gate and jet bridge, a response to an increase in passengers over the last several years.

"In 2009 we had 372,220 passengers, in 2014 we had 489,977 and in 2015 477,244," airport director Tony Caruso said in a Wednesday press release. "2016’s numbers will be in within the week and are expected to surpass the 2015 numbers since there were four record breaking months during the year.”

The new gate area and the jet bridge cost just over $1.9 million dollars, with 90% of the funding coming from the FAA Airport Improvement Program. The remaining %10 was paid for with airport funds and by the Maine DOT.

"The new Gate 3 has better passenger amenities with new seating, proximity to restrooms and the café in addition to the new jet bridge," Caruso said.
