Heads Up If You’re Driving Downtown: Bangor’s Main Street Will Be One Lane In Either Direction This Week
If you've traveled along Main Street in Bangor recently, you know that a great deal of it, especially in the area across the street from the Maine Savings Amphitheater and the artwork along the fence connected to it, has turned into a construction zone.
It's all part of the effort to construct the new YMCA facility, which broke ground last October.

According to City officials, there will be even more work taking place this week, which will have an impact on motorists who travel in that area.
A post on the City of Bangor, Maine, Facebook page says this week's project involves a large storm drain and will take place over the course of the entire week.
"A contractor on Monday, April 20, will begin a storm drain project that will require Main Street in the area of the YMCA construction site to narrow to one lane in both directions. Signage and flaggers will be in place to guide drivers through the construction area. The work is expected to conclude on Friday, April 24...If you're driving along Main Street, please keep the safety of workers in mind and drive slowly through the area."
They say crews will be working on the project from 6:30 in the morning till 6 PM each day.

Work on the 82,000 square foot Y building, which will replace the current aging facility on 2nd Street, is projected to end sometime next year, with a grand opening date aimed at some point in 2027.
