Many children will be bummed to know one of their favorite, and one of only a few children-centered, stores in the Bangor Mall will be closing on Sunday.

The Build-A-Bear Workshop, where you can pick a stuffed animal and accessorize and customize it, will be closing shop on Dec. 31.

The store's concept is a unique experience, as described in a July 2007 press release by the company:

The Build-A-Bear Workshop innovative store concept takes children's interactive entertainment retailing to a new level, combining the process of making your own stuffed animal with an exciting atmosphere. “We've created a unique retail experience by putting the heart back into retailing and putting our Guests at the center of every aspect of our business,” said Clark.

The closing has been known for a few weeks. A store employee confirmed the store would be closing on Dec. 31.

The store opened in the Bangor Mall in the Fall of 2007.

The state's lone Build-A-Bear Workshop will be the one located at the Maine Mall in South Portland.
