A Bangor man is facing charges in connection with the theft of a snowmobile trailer and four sleds from a storage facility in Millinocket.

Who Is the Suspect?

Carl McCullough, 46, of Bangor is charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer after an investigation that involved multiple law enforcement agencies. Officials say McCullough is currently on probation, and so violations of probation were added to his charges. He was arrested without incident on Wednesday, March 15th. Assisting the East Millinocket Police in this investigation were members of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office and Hampden Police Department.

How Did Police Identify the Suspect?

When the owners of the enclosed snowmobile trailer and four snowmobiles arrived at the storage lot in Millinocket on Saturday, March 11th, they found no sign of their property. They contacted East Millinocket Police, who determined that they had been stolen during the previous night. Officials say the total value of the stolen items is in excess of $50,000.

Police reviewed footage from the security cameras at the storage facility and found images of the suspect and the vehicle used in the theft of the trailer and sleds. Those images were matched up with information from law enforcement databases, which then led police to McCullough.

Were the Trailer and Snowmobiles Recovered by Police?

The investigation is ongoing and police are still working to recover the property stolen from the storage facility's lot. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the stolen items is urged to contact the East Millinocket Police at 207-746-3555.
