Bangor City Council voted Monday night to adapt to a new recycling program where the residents of the city will put their recyclables and trash in the same bin as opposed to separating and using two bins, the Bangor Daily News reports.

The article states that the new method will begin in September and it will all go to a new, state of the art waste processing facility in Hampden that can automatically separate paper, plastic, and other recyclable materials out.

According to the story, Fiberight, the owner of the new waste plant says it can recycle at least half of the waste that it receives, rather than sending it along to landfills. With the current method of recycling, the city only recycles about a quarter of the waste.
