An incident that tied up law enforcement in Bangor and spanned from early in the morning to just before noon in one Bangor neighborhood has finally come to an end.

The restful slumber of one local family was interrupted by banging on the roof of their Bangor home Wednesday morning. It wasn't Santa, but instead a man Bangor Police say had climbed onto the roof of the family's home, and refused to come down..

According to the BPD, members of the Bangor Police and Fire Department, as well as Bangor Police Department crisis negotiators, spent the first half of Wednesday on the scene of the incident on 14th Street.

Authorities closed sections of 14th Street, between Allen Street and Dean Street for the duration of the incident.

WABI-TV reported that the situation started in the wee hours of the morning, when this person, who the actual homeowner does not know, thought he'd scale the home to retrieve drugs he believed were in the chimney.

Authorities were called, and have been trying to get the man to come down, even sending a bucket truck for him to ride down on. That did not go according to plan, they say.

"They called police, and when Bangor Fire and Police responded, the fire department put a basket up near the roof.

The homeowner’s boyfriend says an ax was attached to it, he then jumped from the roof to basket, grabbed the ax, and jumped back on the roof.

They say he also has a knife."

Fox22 in Bangor said that after taking the ax, the homeowner says the man began to to put holes into the roof.

As the temperature rose and the hours went by, the authorities were finally able to convince the man to come down.

Bangor Police Department's Public Information Officer, Jason McAmbley, says the incident has finally come to an end.

"At about 11:30 a.m., the person on the roof of the house on 14th Street surrendered and has been taken into protective custody for transport to a local hospital for physical and mental health evaluation."

No news yet on when or if the man will be charged. We will update this story as more information is released.
