In an effort to help folks in Bangor keep cool today, the City has placed a couple of sprinklers along the waterfront. According to the City of Bangor, Maine-City Hall Facebook Page:

"A sprinkler is located on the lawn on Railroad Street and one near the flagpole along the waterfront walkway. Anyone is welcome to use these sprinklers to cool off. A water bottle filling station is located on the side of the Harbormaster’s building."

Water, both drinking it and using it to cool off, can be crucial to surviving the summer heat.

Aside from information on where the sprinklers are located, the post suggest making use of the Pancoe Pool. Details on swim times and fees can be found here.

There are also some important tips for folks to remember when dealing with hot temperatures.

The Maine.gov website lists a number of tips on how to deal with hot weather.

Along with keeping your home cool, it's recommended that you come up with a plan to keep yourself cool. And while Bangor doesn't have any designated "Cooling Centers" there are other options, along with the Sprinklers, that people should keep in mind.

"Identify an air conditioned space you can go to, like a cooling center, library, theater, or store. This is important even if you have air conditioning at home, in case your power goes out or your air conditioner breaks. Even a few hours spent in air conditioning can help your body stay cooler when you go back into the heat."

It's also suggested that folks check on their friend and neighbors who may have issues with the heat, or no air conditioning.

And it's important for everyone to know the signs of heat related illnesses, such as dizziness, rapid pulse, fainting, heavy sweating and vomiting, to name a few.

Do you best to stay safe and cool today. And if you can, it's a great day to park it in front of an air conditioner and listen to some cool tunes!
