This is such an interesting move on the part of the city.  Spearheaded by the Penobscot Nation the vote came down unanimous to give it a try.

If you remember back in 2015 Belfast changed Columbus Day to Indigenous People's day.  The thoughts put out in the BDN were that Columbus barging into the new world on behalf of Spain brought in on his heels racism, genocide and colonists that would steal the natural habitat of the indigenous people.

This many years after the fact the parties involved hope the symbolic gesture will spawn positive conversations and a feeling of unity among all of us.  So what do you think?
