The Backstory
Authorities issued a warning to residents that Lachance should be considered armed and dangerous following raid on home on Waldo Street in Rumford. Reports of drug activity and shots fired prompted a large police presence in the area. Once the place was secured, it was discovered that Lachance had fled the scene before police arrived.
What Took Place This Week
The U.S. Marshals Service says they caught up with Lachance this week, and that he is now in custody.
"On October 20, in Westbrook, members of the emergency services units apprehended Lachance after he attempted to flee the residence on foot. A perimeter team subsequently took him into custody without further incident. Lachance was then turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and transported to a local jail, where he remains pending his initial appearance on the state charges."
Lachance faces felony state charges including criminal mischief, aggravated assault and aggravated reckless conduct.
As is often the case with serious situations in the state, the U.S. Marshals Service says the Lachance's arrest came about as a result of multiple agencies working in cooperation with each other, including the Homeland Security Task Force, the Maine Violent Offender Task Force, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Maine State Police, and the South Police, Westbrook, Rumford and Lewiston Police Departments.
Teamwork Makes The Dream Work
U.S. Marshal David St. Pierre says this cooperation across the board is key positive outcomes and arrests.
“This arrest demonstrates the importance of investigative collaboration among federal, state, and local law enforcement partners who work seamlessly across jurisdictions to identify, locate, and apprehend violent offenders who pose a direct threat to our communities. Joint fugitive investigations such as this one help ensure that individuals accused of violent crimes are brought before the courts and that potential threats to public safety are addressed."
