If You Drive In Brewer, Maine, Beware The Detour That’s Coming Your Way Tuesday
If you drive in the area of South Main Street and Elm Street in Brewer, you're going to want to be aware of an upcoming sidewalk construction project and subsequent detour that's set to begin in that area next Tuesday April 29th and go through the end of the week.
The City of Brewer let folks know of the change that's coming via the Brewer Police Department's Facebook Page and the City's website.
"The work area will be on Elm Street from the railroad tracks to South Main Street. When the detour is in use, traffic will be redirected to South Brewer Drive. This initial detour is expected to end by May 2nd. Please follow the detour signs. The detour will be necessary when working on the sidewalk section near the corner of South Main Street because of sight distances."

City officials says that there locals will still be allowed to come and go from those areas that are closed to other motorists--but access will set up on the side of the railroad tracks.
"This project will be replacing storm drain in various locations on Pierce Road, constructing a new sidewalk on Pierce from Wilson to Wild Rose Drive, reconstructing the sidewalk on Elm. "
There will also likely be future detours when crews come back to finish up paving and creating curbs along the sidewalks.
