Lovers of discounts and bargains in Eastern Maine are on a countdown, as the days that the Brewer Marden's location stays open grow fewer and fewer, and the date the new Bangor Marden's location's grand opening draws closer and closer.

Officials with the company have announced that the Grand Opening of the new Marden's location will take place on March 16th at 9:00 AM.

It was announced last September that the iconic salvage shop would close in the spring of 2026, and a new Bangor store would open on Springer Drive, occupying the old Burlington Coat Factory location.

The building on Springer Drive was in quite a bit of disrepair, so the Marden's folks spent the winter months renovating, remodeling, and redecorating the structure.

They did offer a sneak peek of their new digs to the WABI team recently, which they shared on their Facebook Page.

"Big things are happening in Bangor! Our doors open late March — watch for a sneak peek inside. We’re thrilled to be returning to Bangor for the first time since the 1980s, stepping into a fresh, more efficient space. Our Brewer team members are joining us on the move, and we’re excited to welcome some new faces to the team, too!"

The General Stores Of Downeast Maine

These are the long-time general stores that are spread throughout downeast Maine. The stores that your grandparents picked up milk, beer, and that night's dinner at. For years they had been filled with things like fly paper, clothes, beef jerky, and that morning's newspaper. Now, you stop by for that slice of breakfast pizza, a tasty fried chicken sandwich for lunch, gas,and a handful of lottery tickets.

They're an important part of Maine's heritage, and their numbers are starting to dwindle. But we still frequent them to pick up the day's necessities and to keep up on town gossip.

They may not be owned by the original owners, and they may not look the same as they did years and years ago. But that same hometown feeling is there, the minute you set foot on their wooden floors. More than likely the same wooden floors that your grandparents set foot on.
