He lost his life keeping the residents of Somerset County safe, and now his name will live on as the Norridgewock Bridge will be dedicated to him soon.

Yesterday, the Town of Norridgewock announced that the Norridgewock Bridge, the structure that carries Route 201A over the Kennebec River, will be dedicated to the late Somerset County Deputy Corporal Eugene Cole on Sunday, October 7th, at 2 p.m.

That particular day would have been Cole's 62nd birthday.

The ceremony will take place on at the southern end of the bridge nearest Depot Street.

Town officials are asking organizations and other large groups to please let them know if they're planning on attending, so that they can plan for big gatherings as well.  Email: townmanager@townofnorridgewock.com

Somerset County Sheriff's Deputy Cole was slain during the early morning hours on April 25th while sitting in his cruiser.  A four day manhunt followed before the fugitive was apprehended.  Cole's funeral was attended by over 3000 law enforcement officials from all over the country.
