The good news: the Broadway Bridge replacement project is starting to show signs of wrapping up.

The bad news: motorists will have to endure some closures so crews can finish things off.

The $30.6 million project, which was approved in 2021 and broke ground in 2023, is set to wrap up at the end of this year.

But there's still some work to be done, some of which will impact traffic along Broadway in Bangor this week. They plan to close down the area underneath the I-95 Bridge.

According to the Maine Department of Transportation, most of the work will take place on Thursday, August 13, between 8 PM and 5 AM.

"The project work consists of removing the existing concrete barrier and steel sheets below the bridge. During these hours, Broadway will be closed to all vehicular traffic."

"Flaggers will be on site to assist pedestrians through the work zone during the closure period...Motorists must follow posted detour signs."

The Maine DOT lists the completion date for the Broadway Bridge Project as the end of 2026, so there's light at the end of the tunnel, at least where this one project is concerned.

Of course, there are plenty of other projects in the area that will still be in the works for some time to come, like the Diverging Diamond Interchange Project happening near the Hogan Road.
