All good things must come to an end, and make room for something new. In that spirit, a long-time staple of Bucksport's Main Street, MacLeod's Restaurant is getting ready to close its doors next month, as owners George MacLeod transitions to a new phase in life; retirement.

George and his son Connor, who also acts as the restaurant's General Manager,  passed along the news, and their heartfelt thanks to patrons via their Facebook Page.

"Friends,
Sending this along with our heartfelt gratitude. Connor and George."

According to the Ellsworth American, MacLeod, who reduced the hours of operation for the restaurant during Covid, is hoping a buyer will come forward with the intent to not only take over the business but expand the hours and capitalize on the interest folks in the area have for good, local food.

"MacLeod and son Connor are committed to assisting a new owner get up to speed and get their crew back to work for the coming season...In addition to the restaurant, the property at 63 Main St. includes five water-view apartments on the second and third floors. The property is offered by MacLeod's firm, Maine Real Estate Brokerage."

MacLeod's has built up a solid reputation since opening in 1980. 45 years later, and once the news hit that it would be closing as of April 1st, fans of the locally owned eatery, from near and far, wanted to share their memories and thanks to the MacLeod family for all their years of contributing to the Bucksport community.

"Wishing you the very best, but we sure will miss you. Always consistent and welcoming and delicious. Now… Where to go for our anniversary?" asked one patron.

"My favorite place to eat when I visit Maine and the first restaurant I ever ate at in Maine that set the standard high for quality seafood. Best Wishes from NY," commented another from out of state.

While someone else added "Noooo!! It won’t be the same! Wonderful food and friendly hometown hospitality. Thank you for the memories 😊. Every time my wife and I took our boat downriver from Hamden we loved looking forward to a fantastic meal. This will be missed. Good luck in retirement!"

It's going to be strange not to have MacLeod's as an option anymore when going out to eat in Belfast. It's wonderful that the closure is by choice, and that the restaurant has been able to stand the test of time, this long, as a hometown favorite for all of these years. It's no small feat that throughout the decades, regardless of what's been happening in the world, this family-run business has endured. Here's hoping someone else will come along and experience the same success.

We wish the MacLeod family the best of luck in their final days of business and beyond.
