According to Katie England with the Bangor Police Department, the incident started just after 2 AM on Sunday, May 25th.

39-year-old Caleb Hewey had been in and out of the Circle K on Main Street in Bangor all evening when he went in again, right around 2:20 AM,  looking to use the facilities. When he was told that the bathroom was closed, he allegedly made threats to the staff, and the police were called.

As the police made their way to the store, another call came into the dispatch, this time with a report that Hewey had escalated from verbal threats to physical violence.

"The complainant called back a short time later, reporting the suspect had
hit her in the face. When officers arrived, they found Hewey being detained by another man. As a result of the investigation, Hewey was placed under arrest and taken to Penobscot County Jail."

Hewey was booked into the jail by 2:49 AM, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff's website.
