Bangor Police Are Helping Kids Chill Out This Summer With Free Ice Cream!
The place to be this Wednesday, if you're 12 and under, is Fielder's Choice in Bangor, as the Bangor Police Department will be hooking kids up with free ice cream!
Don't get me wrong, you can go cool off at the 'Cone With A Cop' event if you're a grown-up, too, you'll just have to pony up for your own cone! (The adults get free coffee at similar events throughout the year!)
Bangor Police Department's Community Relations Officer, Liz Ashe, says this new program is basically the kid version of 'Coffee With A Cop."
"Cone With A Cop is the summertime version of Coffee With A Cop, just with ice cream
instead of coffee, and with an emphasis on getting kids to know their local police, which is why each person 12-years-old or younger can get one free ice cream, courtesy of Fielder’s Choice and the Bangor Police Department...So, stop by, meet some officers, discuss some issues, and enjoy some ice cream."
It's all taking place on Wednesday, July 9th, from 5pm to 7pm at Fielder’s Choice on Odlin Road.

These events fall under the department's Community Outreach Program and are geared towards helping Bangor residents start up dialogues with law enforcement under positive circumstances, rather than in situations of duress.
In this particular case, Ashe says it's a great way for local kids to connect with cops in a fun way.
"Most of the time, when kids are dealing with us, it's generally not the best day of their lives. So if kiddos can come out and have a fun night, nothings on fire, no one's getting arrested...they can ask any questions that they have...We're just available to speak with them."
"Come out for a low-key, relaxed night. Have a cone with a police officer, get to speak with a police officer. If they have career ambitions to be a police officer, or they really like Paw Patrol, it could be just as simple as that. Just have a fun and positive interaction with police officers in a low-key, low-stress setting."
Ashe says there will be two dedicated officers at Wednesday's event, along with other on-duty officers who will be stopping by.
