Dress up in your favorite costume and dance the night away in Brewer next week, to help heat the warming center in Bangor's Brick Church.

It's hard for many of us to imagine spending a night outside in the middle of winter. But for Bangor's homeless, it's a reality, if they've shown up too late to get into a shelter or are without a place to go for whatever reason. So warming centers are vital to keeping these folks safe and warm. Most are simply a place where folks can get in out of the cold, have a cup of coffee, and maybe play a board game or watch some TV.

The Brick Church, at the corner of Union and Main Streets in Bangor, has become their community center, of sorts, with Manna serving meals, and the Storehouse collecting donations of clothing and supplies, and a warming center that's open 24 hours a day during the winter months. Of course, it costs money to heat the building, pay the lights, and buy the coffee.

So, on Saturday, October 19th, the public is invited to a costume ball to help fund the center. From 7 p.m. to midnight, folks can enjoy dinner, dancing, and a costume contest. Music will be provided by Black Ice, the Alter Boys, the Barn Dogs, and the Barnyard Gardeners, with a special appearance by Shannon Denbow. You must be at least 21 to attend.
