Did You See Or Hear Anything Strange On Great Pond Monday Night?
One of the best ways to take in the sights and sounds of Maine, is on a boat.
But anyone who has ever owned a boat knows keeping it afloat is an investment, to say the least. And with so many folks taking to the great outdoors this summer, boat repair shops have been working steadily.
That's what makes this certain situation really unfortunate. You see, someone decided to go on a bit of a joyride on Great Pond in Belgrade Monday night. And for one reason or another, they ended up hitting a pontoon boat that was moored nearby, causing quite a bit of damage.
Now we all know the decent thing to do would have been to stick around and try to find the boat's owner, you know, take responsibility for one's actions.
But in this case, the person who did the damage, promptly fled the scene of the crime, something authorities don't take to kindly to.
So those authorities, in this case, the Maine Warden Service and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, are asking anyone who might have been in the area, and might have seen or heard something around 11PM Monday night--the time they suspect the crash took place, to come forward with that information.
From the Maine DIF&W Facebook Page:
"On Monday night, August 23, 2021 at approximately 11:00 p.m., residents reported hearing a loud crash, then seeing a boat flee from the east side of Pinkham’s Cove on Great Pond. An investigation by Game Wardens revealed that a pontoon boat moored in Pinkham Cove by a Burton Woods Road camp owner was struck and suffered severed damage in the crash. Game wardens are asking that anyone who has information regarding this crash to please call State Police Dispatch in Augusta at 207-624-7076."
The repairs on this boat are not going to be cheap. And there's still a good portion of time left to enjoy the water.
Let's hope the person/persons who hit this pontoon do the right thing and come forward, or that someone witnessed where they went.
