A Direct Link is About to Form Between Australia and Maine

Is there a Maine Island in Australia?

Before getting into the meat and potatoes of this story, while researching, I came across an area in the northern territory of Australia called the Maine Islands. The only problem? There's not much information about it. You can get a weather report of Maine Islands if you're curious (today will be sunny and 90.)

You can also apparently see where it's marked on a map. At first sight, it literally looks like the marker indicating where they are is in just in the middle of the ocean right off the northern coast of Australia.

However, switch to the satellite and zoom in a bit, and you can actually see (faintly) some very, VERY small islands.

So, you could say there's already a bit of a link between Maine and Australia, but that's not what we're talking about. And that's not even technically a direct link.

An Australian Woman's Plea to Mainers

Yesterday in the Portland, Maine Facebook group, an Australian woman named Sarah Briscoe (who ironically lives in the northern territory of Australia, which is where the Maine Islands are located) made a plea to Mainers to help her with a project for her 21-year-old daughter, Charlotte, that involves handwritten notes and eye-appealing Maine settings.

"My first project has me putting together a scrapbook of 21st birthday message and advice from a Mums perspective about all things; life, relationships, friendships, career, love, etc. if for some reason I don’t make it to her 21st she can read through a scrapbook full of photos of birthday wishes and wisdom from around the world and open her eyes up and let her explore - that world can be her oyster."

 

The above picture is basically what Sarah is looking for as she not only tries to get letters from every state in the USA, but across the globe as well. It's not known whether or not Sarah is sick (based on the above reference she made about in case she doesn't make it to her daughter's 21st birthday), but it seems more like this is just a cool project she's putting together for the future.
