An injured hiker had to be airlifted to a helicopter in order to reach a waiting ambulance on Monday.

The woman and her family were hiking the Ladder Trail on Dorr Mountain when she sustained a leg injury. Maine Forest Rangers responded to the scene and lifted the woman through the air to a helicopter. She was then flown to an ambulance from the Bar Harbor Fire Department.

If not for the helicopter, rescuers would have be forced to make a dangerous trek down the mountain, while carrying the hiker on a litter. Of course, that also meant the hiker got to a doctor much sooner.
