New Digs! Eastern Maine Emergency Vet Clinic Plans Move To Bigger Location
For over a decade the Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic has been providing emergency care for animals in the region in a small facility at 15 Dirigo Drive in Brewer. They are the furthest north after-hours clinic in Maine.
"We provide emergency care for your pets without appointments and are available after hours, on weekends, and on holidays...We function as a triage-based ER, prioritizing the most critical patients for immediate attention rather than adhering strictly to the order of arrival."
Unfortunately, due to the size of their facility and a shortage of veterinarians, they're often in the difficult position of having to send patients to other facilities when they reach capacity, as they have mentioned recently their Facebook page.
"We are currently reaching capacity with our hospitalized and critical patients. We are likely going to be only able to handle urgent care cases and unable to hospitalize additional patients. If your pet is experiencing a life threatening emergency and you are located south of us, please travel SOUTH to one of the other 4 emergency clinics in the state."
They are hopeful, however, that this situation will change in the future, when they move into their new, much larger location on Route 1A in Holden this fall.
"The cat is out of the bag! Our new sign is up on Route 1A in Holden. We are moving in the fall!
You asked for more parking space.
You asked us to see more patients
You asked us to try and keep you with your pet in exam rooms.
We are expanding so that we can better serve the pets of the great Bangor area."
Up until last year, the spot at 820 Main Road in Holden had been occupied by Big Bang Boom Fireworks. That business closed in 2024, and the building, which sits on 18.5 acres, sold for $590,000.
The EMCVC will have lots of room to grow in this new spot.
Town officials with Holden say they are looking forward to the clinic's opening.
"We are excited to have a vet clinic open in town and to be working with this new business."
And from the reaction online, they're not the only ones excited about the move.
One person said: "This is wonderful. And you're no farther from me than you were. 2 years ago y'all saved my dog's life. I'm forever grateful for y'all. Happy to have you in my hometown now."
Another wrote: "This is amazing! Thank you for expanding to serve the needs of our community. So many depend on your services."

An official move/opening date has not yet been released, but representatives for the clinic hint that the goal is to make the move by the fall.
