Anthem Insurance recently suffered a data breach in their online security, exposing personal information of its customers. Now, a new phishing scam is making the rounds, trying to get even more information. Maine's Bureau of Insurance has some advice for anyone who receives one of these emails.

Anthem informed the Bureau today that a phishing attempt has been discovered. Anyone receiving an email claiming to be from Anthem should NOT reply to the message, click on links, open any attachments, or provide personal information.

Anthem will not call or email members about the cyber attack and data breach. The company will contact its current and former members via mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. If you receive one of these emails, follow the precautions below to help protect you and your personal and financial information:

  • DO NOT reply
  • DO NOT click on links
  • DO NOT provide information
  • DO NOT open attachments

Consumers with questions or concerns about health insurance issues can contact the Bureau of Insurance toll-free at 1-800-300-5000.
