A tractor-trailer crash in Falmouth caused delays to afternoon traffic Friday.

According to the Maine State Police, troopers arrived on the scene just before 2 p.m. of a large truck that had rolled over on I-495 in the westbound lane, right where traffic usually merges on the Exit 11 off-ramp of I-295.

"The preliminary investigation showed that the driver, Mohammed Mohammed Abdallah, 25, of Nebraska, lost control of the truck as he exited exit 11 on I-295 merging onto the spur. The truck struck a guardrail to the left and rolled over onto its side blocking both travel lanes. The driver was transported by Falmouth Rescue to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries."

Authorities say that the truck, which was carrying about 45 thousand pounds of paper products, was positioned in such a way that it took a while to clear it from the roadway. During the time Copp Motors and the local emergency service crews were working to clean up the scene, traffic to all Westbound access points of the area was blocked off and rerouted to prevent a massive backup.

The roadway remained closed throughout the afternoon.

Authorities issued the driver of the truck 2 summonses for violations relating to the crash.
