First Ghost Bike Road Side Memorial To Be Installed In Maine
Since 2003, these eerie looking memorials have been popping up across the country. Unfortunately, the first of it's kind will appear here in Maine soon.
In 1998, 16 year-old Ethan Barton was struck and killed by a drunk driver while riding a bike on a road in Poland, Maine. Now, Bob and Suzanne Barton will place the novel memorial at the site of Ethan's death.
As the picture above shows, ghost bikes are a grim reminder that someone riding a bike was killed at that location. The painted white bike is chained to a permanent fixture, like a lamppost.
Ghost Bike Memorials began in St. Louis and there are currently over 630 memorials world wide, according to GhostBikes.Org.
