Fundraising Effort Underway For Dog Rescued From Rooftop In Old Town
While this story started as a bit of a head-scratcher, it ended up as a great big tear-jerker (in a good way.)
Last month, the Old Town Police Department made a middle-of-the-night rooftop rescue. But it wasn't a person they pulled down from the top of the home, it was a dog. More specially, a golden retriever.
"An unusual call came in around 1:00 AM this morning. The caller reported a dog on the roof of a home! Sure enough, that is where he was hanging out. Officer McAlinden to the rescue!! We hope he is reunited with his family soon, he was very sweet!!"
Unfortunately, the dog's owner hasn't come forward yet. And there's no explanation as to how the animal got up on the roof in the first place.

The Animal Orphanage in Old Town has been taking care of the dog, which they now call Chesnut. They have hooked him up with a foster family, but this good boy has quite a few issues to tackle, and some of them will be lifelong!
"Chestnut was recently diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus which is pretty rare in dogs and is characterized by excessive thirst/drinking and the production of enormous volumes of extremely dilute urine. This is a life-long diagnosis that will need to be treated daily with DDAVP treatment. He was also diagnosed with Heartworm, which will be an extensive and long treatment, however we are doing everything in our power to help this handsome guy through his treatment to give him the best life possible. On top of both those diagnoses, he is also mildly anemic."
They have put together a goal to raise $10,000 to cover Chestnut's medical expenses. To donate to that, you can click here.
Wayne Loring says there's also a raffle taking place for a one-of-a-kind Loring Pack Basket. You can get your tickets at Governor's Restaurants and the proceeds will go towards the pup.
"We have a raffle at Governors in Old Town for a Loring Pack Basket full proceeds go to Chestnut, the golden retriever who was found on a roof in Old Town with medical issues. We have also made a FB post challenging local business to match our $100 donation."
Chestnut's road to recovery will likely take some time, but once he is well (or at least over the heartworm), the folks at the Animal Orphanage hope he will find a new forever home.
