The next time you're looking for something fun to do, and you happen to be in Franklin County, make sure to stop off for a romp in Maine's "Gnome Home Roam" also called the Gnome Village.
Nestled near Maine's legendary Saddleback Mountain, and situated throughout the trails that run through the Rangeley Lakes Trail Center, the idea for Gnome Home Roam began years ago, when folks in the area came up with the idea to get more kids in the community involved with enjoying their local outdoor recreation areas.
The organizers thought, what better way to inspire children to have fun than with a Gnome scavenger hunt of sorts?
"Talented local carpenters joined forces with the Rangeley Lakes Regional School and the Gnome Home Roam was born! Over 30 gnomes (and counting) created by RLRS student artists reside amongst the trails in homes crafted by Marty V and his fellow carpenters."
After the homes were built, they just needed some Gnomes to go in them.
That's when locals Nini Christensen and Beth Flynn joined forces with some local art students, and what began as a little concentrated village expanded to cover dozens of acres, making for a fun and at times challenging game of hide-and-go-seek, Gnome-style!
Take a look at some of the cool gnomes that call this place home.
