Folks in Orono are going all out this Halloween with a massive Trunk-or-treat event for the kiddos in the afternoon on Halloween, and a "Halloween After Dark" event planned for the grownups later that evening.

The fun starts with the Trunk-or-Treat located in the heart of Downtown Orono, on Mill Street. From 4-6PM families will be able to make the rounds, from trunk to trunk and to all the area businesses, to gather candy in abundance!

According to organizers, as they have in the past, this year they'll be shutting the street down to make it safe for little ones to run around.

"This family-friendly event transforms Mill Street into a safe, traffic-free trick-or-treating zone, allowing families to enjoy Halloween in a centralized and supervised setting."

They will also have an option for those kids who have allergies to certain ingredient, who still want to have fun and gather treats.

"Orono’s Trunk or Treat proudly participates in the Teal Pumpkin Project, offering non-food and allergy-friendly items so children with food sensitivities can join in the fun."

People looking to participate in the Trunk-or-Treat as guests can park down behind the Town Office building off of Goodridge Drive. Those who wast to decorate a trunk and hand out candy are also encouraged to do so.

This year, directly following the Trunk-or-treat for the kids, there's something new for the grownups!

They're calling it Halloween After Dark! And it's set to run from 6PM to 9:45PM.

The HOME committee, who put this new event together, says its a local restaurant crawl, with eateries like the Family Dog, Marsh Island Brewing, Orono Brewing Co., Thai Orchid, Woodmans Bar & Grill and Yama's Bar & Grill all taking part.

"We'll have a photo booth, raffle, food/drink specials, and a FREE trolley ride around town—looping from the UMaine Student Union, Orchard Trails, and to Downtown Orono and Orono Brewing Company."

While costumes are encouraged, they are not mandatory.

10 Halloween Candy Favorites - How Far Would You Have to Walk To Burn Those Calories?

There is a reason why we are supposed to walk when we go trick-or-treating on Halloween night. We're supposed to burn those calories. But since most of us will consume a bag of candy, or two, before the night we're supposed to wait for, we thought it might be handy to know just how much effort it's going to take to offset the caloric intake of each tasty morsel.

Halloween Pet Safety Tips

Halloween should be fun for the whole family, including the furry, feathered, and wild ones that share our neighborhoods. A little extra caution keeps everyone safe and lets you enjoy the best part: the candy, the costumes, and the community.
