When the time comes to take down the tree, if it hasn't already, here's how to get rid of it safely and free.

In Bangor, take it to the Bangor Public Works facility at 530 Maine Avenue, any Monday through Sunday during daylight hours.  If you have no way of getting there with your tree, then leave it out on the curb for pickup, as collection will begin on Thursday, January 2nd, and then end on Friday, January 17th.

Wreaths will not be accepted by Bangor, put them in your trash.  More than likely, your Christmas tree will be chipped and then spread somewhere in the city to be used for erosion control.  You may actually end up walking on it at some point this spring or summer.

In Brewer, take your tree to the Joseph L. Ferris Community Center at the lower parking lot off Wilson Street, right by the Brewer Auditorium. Do it before Sunday, January 19th.  Or, of course you can take it to the Brewer Landfill. There will be no curbside pickup of trees in Brewer, and the city asks that you do not leave it out with the trash.

Remember to take all of the decorations off your tree before handing it over to the city.  You may also want to take that envelope filled with cash from it that Grammy so lovingly left in one of the limbs for you.
