Here’s What’ll Be Burning Down By The River In Veazie This Week

People that live and work on both sides of the Penobscot River will be wondering what's going on.  Let us inform you.

M&N Operating Company will begin to inspect and clean a section of natural gas pipeline that runs between Eddington and Veazie tomorrow, Tuesday, June 8th, and the operation will continue over the next few days as well.

The company will insert what is known as a "smart pig", a piece of gear that will inspect the inside of the pipeline and let them know what condition it is in.  The company will also clean the inside of the pipeline with special tools as well.

Now, the really cool part.

While the inspection and cleaning is taking place the natural gas itself will be diverted to a giant burning flare that will be located on the Shore Road in Veazie by Casco Bay Energy.  The natural gas coming out of the pipeline and being burnt off by the flare will produce a loud and constant "gushing" sound, which is totally normal during an operation like this that has been done many times before.

Workers from M&N Operating Company along with the Veazie Fire Department will monitor the flare during all hours of operation. The company assures us that people that both live and work in that area will be in no danger whatsoever.
