While most Mainers were hunkered down and watching the snow pile up Monday, one person decided it was the perfect day to hit the waves.

Video captured by WMTW News 8 shows a surfer walking straight into the ocean at Reid State Park during the height of the blizzard, board in hand, as snow blew across the beach and visibility dropped.

The scene looks almost surreal with gray skies, whipping wind, snow covering the sand and a lone surfer heading out like it’s just another day on the water.

Winter surfing isn’t unheard of along Maine’s coast, especially among experienced surfers wearing thick cold-water wetsuits designed to handle near-freezing temperatures. But doing it during an active blizzard definitely turns heads.

The clip quickly got people talking, with reactions ranging from admiration for the surfer’s toughness to disbelief that anyone would willingly paddle out in those conditions.

Only in Maine, right?
